George Patrick “Pat” McJimsey 1950 - 2004

Pat McJimsey inspired a generation of musicians in Wichita. A songwriter, vocalist and guitar player, his legacy began at the age of 17 in his mother’s garage with the band, Velvet Honey. He quickly became king of the blues scene, forming groups such as the Bear Valley Blues Band, The Entire British Navy, 4 Brothers and of course, the Pat McJimsey Band.

Pat toured with John Manning, Finnegan & Wood, Leon Russell and Freddy King. He also shared the stage as an opening act for artists such as Canned Heat and Spyro Gyra. But, it was back in Wichita where Pat was most revered and where he made an impact in his community. Shortly before his untimely death, Pat was performing with different area jazz groups and as a featured vocalist at the Wichita River Festival, Botanica Gardens and the incomparable Cotillion Ballroom. And, it was rumored a new all-blues album was in the works.

Following Pat’s unexpected death from a heart attack in 2004, his wife requested that memorial gifts received in Pat’s honor create a fund to help others.

Pat understood the needs of so many musicians who struggle to survive without health insurance or savings, especially when a hardship interrupts their ability to play for pay. When adversity affects a musician’s ability to keep gigging, the struggle becomes a crisis.” - Barb Pearce-McJimsey

Through the PAT Fund, we not only carry the torch of Pat’s compassion for fellow musicians, we ensure his legacy continues. The city of Wichita will forever smile at the sound of his name, and we will continue to find comfort in our memories, our shared stories and knowing we are making a difference in the lives of musicians and their families who are facing hardship.
